How Double Elimination Works

In a double-elimination tournament, a player is only eliminated after their second loss. It's a format that gives everyone a fair shot — one bad game doesn't end your run.

The bracket is split into two main sections. The Winners Bracket is where undefeated players compete. When someone loses, they drop down to the Losers Bracket, where they continue competing for a chance to reach the Grand Finals. The tournament ends when the undefeated player (from the Winners Bracket) beats the player who fought through the Losers Bracket.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the Losers Bracket winner beats the Winners Bracket winner in the Grand Finals?

In a standard double elimination format, the bracket resets and a second Grand Finals match is played. The Losers Bracket winner has to win twice to become champion. This tool shows the Grand Finals as a single match — in practice, you'd run a second match if the Losers Bracket player wins.

Can I edit the bracket after generating it?

The current version is static — you generate a fresh bracket with the provided player names and structure. For a printable tournament chart, you can print it and fill in match results by hand.

What's the maximum number of players?

The tool supports 4, 8, 16, and 32 players. These are the standard numbers for a double elimination bracket where the math works out correctly.

Is my data stored or shared?

No. All data stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server. You can close the page and reopen it — the bracket resets to its default state.
