Ethanol (Álcool)
Better value for your money — you save more per kilometer
Ethanol needs about 30% more volume to cover the same distance as gasoline.
📊 How it works: Ethanol has about 30% lower energy efficiency than gasoline. It's worth choosing ethanol when its price is ≤ 70% of gasoline price.

Formula: (Ethanol Price ÷ Gasoline Price) × 100 ≤ 70% → Choose Ethanol
How the fuel calculator works

For flex-fuel vehicles, ethanol (alcohol) has about 30% lower energy efficiency than gasoline. This means you need roughly 30% more ethanol to cover the same distance.

The 70% rule

Ethanol becomes financially advantageous when its price is ≤ 70% of the gasoline price.

  • Formula: (Ethanol Price ÷ Gasoline Price) × 100
  • If result ≤ 70% → Ethanol is cheaper per kilometer
  • If result > 70% → Gasoline is cheaper per kilometer

Quick start

  1. Enter the price of Ethanol (Álcool) per liter
  2. Enter the price of Gasoline (Gasolina) per liter
  3. See the ratio and instant recommendation
  4. Use "Swap prices" to quickly compare scenarios

Example

  • Gasoline at R$ 5.50 per liter
  • Ethanol at R$ 3.80 per liter
  • Ratio = (3.80 ÷ 5.50) × 100 = 69% → Ethanol wins!

Why 70%?

Ethanol's energy content is approximately 30% lower than gasoline's. To travel the same distance:
• 1 liter of gasoline ≈ 1.3 liters of ethanol
• So ethanol must be at least 30% cheaper to break even
